Blaine 21 Month Update

Blaine's even more of a boy these days. There was one nap one week where my mom and I both thought he'd grown up more by the time he woke up. He continues to have mannerisms well beyond his age and we're never quite sure where he got them. He'll sometimes hold his hand to his chin like he's thinking or rest his hands behind his head in the car seat, etc. He also has a look that cracks us up, although he doesn't mean to. He turns his head a bit and looks out of the corners of his eyes with kind of a serious, but puzzled expression. It's his "Are you dumb?" face. Cracks us up all the time. We've decided that these two do not lack personality or character! His personality also continues to shine through his speech. He says "meh meh" which means excuse me after he burps or hiccups, calls Pierce "bah" while pointing at him

He continues to be really good at puzzles, to the point that we think he could be advanced for his age. I'm really impressed with a couple we have in the basement that only have the shape cut out, no picture underneath, and he does them without problem. He has started to enjoy Elmo more and says "ma" for him. He still enjoys hot wheels and transportation, but may be moving on a bit with his interests.

Blaine seems to be getting a bit more picky lately and hasn't been eating as well. I think it could be teething though. He's working on some molars. He still really likes bananas and breakfast food. We've noticed Blaine is our savor-er. If he gets a special treat (including a vitamin) he takes his time eating it, taking little bites at a time and sometimes sucking. It's so funny to see the difference next to Pierce who devours it by stuffing something in at once.

Blaine is also our little helper. He does great at picking up his toys and loves to help sweep or wipe things down. Along with that, he is our nurturer and likes to give Pierce drinks, continues to hug Diego, and is sweet and gentle with babies. He loves rough housing with Daddy and can take more head butts than either of us. He also sings to himself sometimes, little tunes only he knows. He likes to repeat "so" at the end of Jesus loves me, and if I'm not mistaken there may be a bit of a lisp there. So cute!

Sacrificial love

Tonight we were getting ready for bedtime and I had just poured their milk. Pierce came in to get his and I handed him Blaine's too and told him to give it to brother. The cups were a bit and he was having trouble holding on to both cups. He dropped both, paused a second, then grabbed Blaine's, walked it up him and came back for his. Sweetest. Thing. Ever.

Pierce 21 Month Update

My forever baby is growing up! Let's see...his recent obsession is Mickey Mouse. I think he would watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse around the clock if I let him. Even the mention of Mickey makes him smile. It looks like we maybe a having a Mickey 2nd birthday party. :) Pierce is quite vocal, but the majority of the time it's still, "Wassat?" is his high pitched voice. He uses it for everything, but is quite capable of more words if he feels like it. He loves to name the people in his life and even added Aunt Rah Rah to the list this month, to her delight. When he says it, it sounds more like Wuh Wuh though. He also seems to be learning quite a few words from Blaine lately. Blaine taught him bye bye (while shutting a door) and woof woof and a siren. He continues his mommy obsession and if I leave a room will say "mamama" over and over until I come back. He's warming back up to BJ finally though. It's great to be loved, but can be a lot of pressure sometimes! He's also a nana's boy and most times we get in the car says her name to ask if that's where we're going. Yesterday we were meeting Nana and Papa at Panera and we told him that. But he cried half the way there because he thought we should have been going to their house. He was very happy to see Nana upon arrival though. She couldn't love it more! Typically if I turn right instead of left on Pineview, he starts to fuss. He knows their street!

Pierce continues to love transportation and alternates sleeping with his "tuh tuh tuh" (black train) and a hot wheels fire truck that was originally at Nana's, but became his. He also calls for his train sometimes, like Blaine does with Beary. In that case it sounds like "treeeeeen". Way cute!

Eating habits remain the same. He hasn't really added anything new to the mix, but occasionally goes off things he previously liked. Oh yes, he loves raisins. He discovered them in a handful of Mueslix I gave him and he loved them! I feel bad I kept them from him, but I was always paranoid about choking. Currently he's stopped eating grapes, pineapple, banana, and eggs.  I feel like fruit was about all he had going for him. I try not to stress though and maintain consistency in offering him a balanced meal and letting him eat what he wants. He just doesn't seem to have a big appetite ever. But I do think he gained back the weight from the stomach bug, so hopefully he's on the chart. As a peace of mind and immunity booster I started giving the boys a daily Flintstones multi-vitamin. Blaine is the savorer and Piercey is the stuffer. He pops it in his mouth and chews it up within a minute or two. They looove those things and for whatever reason make a siren noise when they want one. (?)

Pierce and Blaine continue to become closer buds and Pierce can be quite affectionate with his hugs and kisses when he feels like it. But there are also plenty of fights over the same toy even if we have two the exact same. They both have started screaming as well. I'm guessing it's an experiment over control and pushing the boundaries. Very annoying though.

He has really started loving to rough house with Daddy and his favorite game is counting to three while bending his knees and then having BJ throw him in the air. It never gets old, even after Daddy is worn out. When he wants more he walks over to BJ and starts bending and saying "tih tih tih". Usually BJ can't resist! His favorite song is Bible Book Bop by Go Fish that we listen to in the car. He often requests it by saying "bop bop" with a big smile on his face.

Conga Line

Just a quick family moment to freeze in time: The other night we were trying to herd the boys back into the living room from the kitchen and I randomly started doing a conga complete with the "da da da da da da" and side kicks. Blaine started to follow so I put his hands on my hips and he started repeating the "da"s! Then BJ connected Pierce to Blaine and brought up the caboose. We made a couple laps around the living room and the boys loved it and grinned the whole time. I love moments like that. :)
